Gender Bias against men is proliferating!!!

Even as feminists and women's organizations across the world are creating a hue and cry about gender bias there is a slow, but steady revolution taknkg place. The Bias against MEN, yes MEN is growing and proliferating rapidly thanks to the internet and other global media.

I came across this article on the internet while browsing and was shocked to see that the author is actually justifying cheating by women. As expected there is not a single readers response to this article, I don't know if it is because nobody bothered to read this or if everyone who read it agreed with it. Whatever the reason maybe the time is coming when men will face the tables turning and will face oppression from women.... Of course if one were to listen to NPR then there are enough male intellectuals out there who are making a case against their own kind.

It will be interesting to wait and watch as the future unfolds.

Growing Poverty in America

It is true America is also slowly but surely becoming like rest of the world. Rich get richer, poor get poorer and the middle class is struggling to pay for the welfare of latter and luxury of the former. According to a newsreport on MSN: "The number of suburban residents living in poverty rose by nearly 64 percent between 2000 and 2011." That is an astounding statistic. At this rate there will be no middle class after a few decades. There will be only two classes the rich minority and the poor majority. I wonder what checks and balances exist in the American constitution/ capitalistic economic model to stem the tide of poverty from sweeping across the nation. We will have to just wait and watch.

Is Pope Francis really non-European?

There has been much hue and cry across the world since the resignation of Pope Benedict and appointment of Pope Francis. He has been touted as the "First non-European Pope" and so on and so forth. I have a simple question: Is he really non-European? and Who is media trying to fool? Is the media and Catholic church trying to make a fool of everyone in the world? Come on! have some logic. Just because Jorge Bergoglio aka Pope Francis I was born in Buenos Aires, it doesn't make him non-European. His parents were Italians - aka Europeans.

Whatever the media may assert and the Catholic church may proclaim, this new pope is as European as one can get. The media is just trying to hoodwink people into believing that the Catholic church has become open to having non-European Pope. They haven't even gone out of their own nation, Pope Francis is a "person of Italian Origins". Stop the media frenzy please. Reference: NPR

Money - the Focus of America

Close at heels of the other story I blogged about is this one about the US Catholic Church. As I exited from my Hotmail account this headline screamed out for attention: "US Catholic Church a $170 billion business". The article, written in the aftermath of the appointment of new pope in the Vatican is all about the challenges that he would be facing. This article focuses on the $170 billion business of the Catholic churches. The write up draws broad comparisons between the Catholic church and the few corporations that spend as much money ($170 billion) in a year. There is no data on how much the church makes, I am pretty sure it is a lot more compared to how much it spends.

U.S. lost $433,982,548 because of Daylight Savings Time switch | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

Everything in America is about economy, money, commerce, business, whatever name you call it. People here are so money oriented that everything they do is centered around the greenback. There are zillion scientists who are churning out numbers of what it costs the country and its people. The newsreport below is a classic example.

Did you remember to set your clock forward on Sunday? Of course, it doesn't really matter since most of us operate on digital devices like our smartphones that do the one-hour adjustment automatically. But the annual switch to Daylight Savings Time reportedly continues to be a costly endeavor, resulting in a net loss of $433,982,548 [...]

Triumph for Native Americans - Loss for Indians

This news video on yahoo shows how people are flexing muscle to protect their national/ ethnic identity even as they are infringing, usurping and dominating over other people's identity. The Navajo Nation one of the several hundred Native American tribes that are still existent in the United States today triumphed against a popular clothing company "Urban Outfitters" that was using their name to market some products. Today the corporation has removed the name Navajo from their product lines, websites and everywhere else.

I wish the 700,000 strong Indian community in the United States and the billion plus in India would protest against the gross misuse of our ethnic identity by a mere 2.9 million Native Americans. I would be happiest the day when all references to Native Americans don't use the term "Indian" in their websites, promotional materials, federal government documents, etc.

Sinkhole swallows up man in Florida

This shocking news report is something revealing about the unpredictable geography in some parts of America. This Florida house that was certified fit by the insurance appraiser was sucked into the earth by a sinkhole along with one of its occupants. The loss of property and life has plunged the family into a pall of gloom and media is showcasing the issue very well.

Looking at this issue I would say two things - people and nature - both are unpredictable. People, because everyone in Florida knows how vulnerable their ground is for sinkhole formation and yet they build homes on the very land and choose to live there. There is an entire segment of economy that subsists on this sinkhole forming earth - foundation repairs, insurance companies, builders, etc. On the other hand nature always proves that it is impossible for human beings to establish supremacy.

Bottom line this is a sad story of a major loss to the family and community. I hope the survivors will move away from this area and build their lives in a more stable part of the country.

Homeless Man’s Honest Deed Rewarded with $16K Donation, and Counting - Yahoo! News

Another example of media hype. Social media and internet continues to blur the line that distinguishes what is and isn't news. This story doesn't deserve headlines but it has hogged headlines simply because it went viral. There seems to be an absolute lack of maturity amongst news media when it comes to publishing.

Syrian violence threatens ancient treasures - Yahoo! News

Even when there was no civil conflict the world stood by as mute witnesses when the Bamiyan Buddha statues were destroyed by the marauding mobs of Islamists. It serves no purpose publishing reports on this kind of incidents when nobody wants to do anything. Even if the conflict ends by the dethroning of the current President, Syria will most probably fall into the hands of Taliban and Al Qaeda who will officially destroy these treasures. There is no winning where Islamists are involved, if you don't destroy them, they will decimate you.

AMMAN (Reuters) - Syrian museums have locked away thousands of ancient treasures to protect them from looting and violence but one of humanity's greatest cultural heritages remains in grave peril, the archaeologist charged with their protection said. Aleppo's medieval covered market has already been gutted by fires which also ripped through the city's Umayyad mosque. Illegal excavations have threatened tombs in the desert town of Palmyra and the Bronze Age settlement of Ebla, and Interpol is hunting a 2,700-year-old statue taken from the city of Hama. ...
